In July 2024, the Hudson Hangar will serve as the venue for a pop-up exhibition featuring local and Czech artists as part of the fifth edition of Upstate Art Weekend. This year’s festival includes several artists from the Czech Republic through a collaboration with Gray Nivas, an artist residency in Accord, NY, founded by Petra (Gupta) Valentová, an AVU and UMPRUM graduate, and her husband.
Photographer Bára Prášilová and painter Francis de Nim (František Matoušek) will exhibit alongside local artists, with a video installation by Pavel and Bára Liškovi featured in the restored 1965 hangar space.
The artistic collective Die Früchte—Veronika Šrek Bromová and Hanele Poislová, joined by guest artist Jan Cina and experimental composer Ondřej Skala—will present JUICY BLUE, an intuitive, site-responsive performance. The work draws inspiration from their collaboration with Valentová and her blueprint textiles, shaped by the atmosphere of the hangar and the Hudson Valley landscape.
The textiles—co-created with Bromová, Poislová, and Cina—feature handmade stamps, brushstrokes, and body impressions. The deep blue pigment symbolizes healing, regeneration, and the natural elements of sky and water, while evoking a sense of mystery and complexity.
